“Self-Compassion: Mindfulness Practice for an Imperfect, Joyful Life in an Imperfect, Beautiful World”

Meditation practices invite us to a greater awareness of our present experience and offer tools for wellbeing. We will explore the science of self-compassion practices and investigate the potential for those practices to inform a UU spiritual path. Two guided self-compassion meditations will be offered.

Cindy Ericksen and Marilyn Huckenpoehler have co-facilitated the weekly UU Drop-In Meditation group since December 2024 and are 2/3 of the leadership team for the monthly Soup-er Good Trouble group focused on building community while growing voter engagement. Cindy is a Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in La Crosse. She also does workshops and presentations on a variety of mindfulness strategies and practices. She actively uses meditation and other mindfulness practices in her therapy practice and her own personal life. She is the parent of 3 adult children and grandparent to 4 grandchildren. Marilyn believes that meditation and gathering with others are both foundational for healthy individuals and societies. She loves gardening; and traveling with her wife Lynn, daughter Katy and Katy’s partner Evan. She practices Buddhist, MBSR, and HeartMath meditation approaches and has been a UU since 2002.
