Employment Opportunities
Music Director (Part Time)
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of La Crosse, a dynamic liberal religious fellowship, seeks a part-time Music Director. This position is responsible for directing (and rehearsing) a choir, selecting and supporting musical ensemble groups, securing musical accompaniment or playing piano at weekly Sunday services, and selecting service music in collaboration with a Sunday Service planning team. Candidates must have experience in performing live music, working with a choir, recruiting and supporting volunteers, and an ability to work collaboratively. They recruit and support choir members and direct choir practices so that the choir can serve twice a month at services. On other Sundays in the month, the Music Director establishes a schedule of volunteer and stipend ensembles, soloists, and accompaniment to facilitate congregational singing and to provide music to support the theme and feel of each service. The Music Director oversees a small budget for materials and stipend. They coordinate with the minister, Sunday Service & Music Team, and presenters in order to select music for worship.
Exact weekly hours will vary depending on programming, but we anticipate the Music Director working 8 hours per week for approximately 40 weeks per year (August – June). Pay is $22.70/hr. The Fellowship highly values music at its regular Sunday Services and values the presence of the Music Director. The Fellowship does not hold services on several holidays and special occasions and we also have some services that do not require music. There is a small budget for additional musicians and a substitute pianist, if needed. It is the responsibility of the Music Director to find and schedule music for those Sundays in which they cannot be present. We welcome applicants regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity or religious background.
To Apply, submit a completed resume and Employment Application to admin@uulacrosse.org with the subject “Music Director Application”.
A completed Voluntary Disclosure form will also be required to run a background check before hire.
