Cremation is probably a better option environmentally than more traditional, (in this country), burial. However, “A single cremation produces about 535 pounds of carbon dioxide, according to one estimate by a cremation technology manufacturer.”
Green burial is becoming an increasingly available option to consider in Wisconsin and other states. Below are links to two sources for more information on this. One is from a Cap Times article and the other is a link to the Driftless Green Burial Alliance which recently announced that, “the historic Viroqua Cemetery has opened a natural burial preserve within its cemetery”
