For Unitarian Universalists, Democracy is a core spiritual and ethical value. As the theologian, Reinhold Niebuhr reminds us, “It is our human propensity for good that makes democracy possible; it is our human tendency toward evil that makes democracy necessary.” Whatever the results of the mid-term elections may be, we will have work to do, healing and strengthening and restoring healthy democracy in this land.
