“The Warming Center: Radical Hospitality”

Karla Hein, the La Crosse Warming Center Coordinator, will share a powerful story with us about what it is like to be on the front lines at the Warming Center on 3rd Street in La Crosse. Each evening, seven days a week, from November 1st until the end of April, the staff and volunteers welcome through the door up to 34 unhoused adults from our community. The center offers a place to sleep, a place to safely store whatever personal belongings the guests carry in, and a hot meal. Showers and a laundry are also available. The following morning, the guests are fed a decent breakfast and then sent out the door to face the day. This is all done with a small budget and with the help of community volunteers and donations. The UU and some of its members have been volunteering at the Warming Center for several years. This year we are hoping to grow our partnership with Catholic Charities in this important work. Please join us.
