Seeds of Peace

On August 6-9, 80 years ago, the United States dropped two nuclear bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan. Each year these dates are honored as a remembrance and powerful symbols of the horrors of nuclear warfare. Not only in Japan, but around the world, peace activists call for the abolition of nuclear weapons worldwide. Speaker Ethan Swizdor will highlight these important events and discuss ways each of us can cultivate peace daily, within ourselves and our spheres of influence.

Ethan Swizdor is a dual-enrolled homeschool student and junior at Waukon High School. He has been attending UU Fellowships since toddlerhood. He enjoys learning about history, particularly the eras of WW2 and Vietnam. Ethan is also a competitive swimmer and member of the 4-H County Council for Allamakee County. He works part-time as a lifeguard, pizza maker at the movie theater and cook at the golf course. He enjoys 3D printing and is currently on track to finish his Associate of Science degree by 2027 and plans to pursue engineering in college.
