“Inclusivity Beyond Binaries”

Humans aren’t binary creatures. Sexuality, gender, and sex all exist on a spectrum. We’ve attempted to chop this spectrum up, label the sections, and then pretend it was never a spectrum to begin with. This spectrum isn’t theoretical or inanimate though. It’s human and it’s made up of our friends, family, neighbors, and peers. Partitioning these spectra diminishes the inherent worth and dignity of humans who don’t fit neatly into these binaries. How can we be inclusive of gender-nonconforming folks in a time when 672 anti-trans and anti-nonbinary bills were considered last year, 379 are active so far this year, and half a dozen executive orders were signed in two weeks? There are direct, inclusive actions we all can take locally to protect our gender-nonconforming youth, prevent further queer suicide attempts, and support members of our community.
