(TED Talk and participant comments.)
Many people are expressing depression and disturbance about the state of the world, from citizen polarization to authoritarian national leadership tendencies, threats of nuclear war, dismantling or debasing governmental agencies, chaotic national events and more. Sometimes such news and events affect our mental wellness. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, we will watch an inspirational 12 minutes TED talk, “How I Became A Localist” which holds promise of some antidotes to those “down” feelings.
This will be followed by brief statements from several UU members who will share perspectives on what being involved in local events and UU activities means to them. Congregational questions and comments will add to this exploration of how to get involved in things that you are passionate about or need doing in order to find personal satisfaction and boost one’s mental wellness. We can do much to change the world from where we are right now! We strengthen our own need for connection and nourishment in the process.
