“Ahead of My Time, Out of My Mind, Two Steps Behind, Right on the Dime: Stories from An Unconventional Life”

Angeles Arrien says that stories nourish the soul. Alice Holstein will share poignant tales from her life. Alice is a longtime UU member. From breaking gender barriers in the Air Force, to an entrepreneurial career, she was waylaid at midlife with a severe mental illness which put her on the streets at times. Rebuilding a life took years. Along the way she worked for the VA, became a Spiritual Director, a public speaker and developed a revolutionary way to consider mental illness treatment. Two of her publications highlight this approach–A Tough Grace: Mental Illness As A Spiritiual Path and Reframing Mental Illness: Affirmations of Hope. She holds a Doctor of Education degree in Organization Development and has two other publications from her entrepreneurial career.
