Wyalusing State Park Camping Weekend

May 13-15, 2022

We’re excited to announce that the UU Fellowship of La Crosse is planning a camping/hiking/bird watching/wildflower weekend at Wyalusing State Park, beginning Friday, May 13 through Sunday, May 15, 2022.  Mid-May is the peak of bird migration for many of our colorful bird species that winter in the southern USA, and Central and South America; these birds are enroute to their breeding grounds in northern Wisconsin and Canada.  Mid-May is also peak blooming time for spring wildflowers (spring ephemerals) that carpet the woodlands before the trees leaf out.  Wyalusing State Park, near Prairie du Chien, WI, is one of the state’s premier locations to witness the spring bird migration and wildflowers in May.  The park also has a rich cultural history, the site of numerous Native American burial mounds, and the park overlooks the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers, a key location in our state’s early European history.

Highlights of the weekend include camping, fellowship, hiking, bird-watching, campfire cookouts, lawn games, singing, drawing, storytelling, and a Sunday service. We have a general outline of activities, but we want the event to be fun and relaxing. Everyone can select a group activity, explore Wyalusing State Park on their own, or just visit and nap. We encourage you to invite friends or family to enjoy the weekend with you. If you have a yard game or other fun activity, bring it with you! Wyalusing State Park is one of the gems of the Wisconsin State Park System and occupies a key historical location at the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers.
