Masks have been used for thousands of years to teach and influence people. This mask making project at UU La Crosse aims to honor the natural world and promote reverence for the environment. These masks can be worn to the Earth Day event at Myrick Park on April 22, and at any event that focuses on environmentalism.
UU Member and artist Jill Rippe will teach and guide us through the stages of mask making. Because papier-mâché must dry between steps, she is offering many sessions to take us from making the armature to the finished product.
All work will be done in the RE downstairs classroom. Masks can be left there between work sessions until they are finished. You don’t need to come to all sessions to finish a mask. All artistic abilities are welcome and encouraged! This is an all ages activity.
