We’re excited to announce that the UU Fellowship of La Crosse is returning for a camping/hiking/bird watching/wildflower weekend at Wyalusing State Park, beginning Friday, May 12 through Sunday, May 14, 2023. Hoping to attend?  GREAT!  Please register before Sunday, March 19 @12pm, so we can plan accordingly.  Space is limited in the cabins and group tent area and we need to plan the meals.  Whether you are coming just for the day (~1.5hr drive from La Crosse) or several, give it your best guess now and feel free to update the form anytime.  Final registrations and a donation ($15/person or $25/family) will be due Sunday, April 9 @ 12PM.

Our goals for the weekend are to have fun, strengthen friendships, and connect with nature. We will have activities (nature hikes, games, stargazing) that will be fun and educational for all ages, including young children and older adults who may not be able to hike the trails or play games. We also plan to have a UU service onsite on Sunday morning. We’ve reserved the Group Lodge and Dormitories that will accommodate up to 108 people. This provides us with a common meeting and dining location for the weekend and indoor sleeping accommodations (rustic, but dry!). We have also reserved a 40-person group tent campground site, if you would prefer, or you can reserve your own private campsite (for campers, RV’s & electric needs) via the online reservation system (https://wisconsin.goingtocamp.com/).  Prairie du Chien also has hotels that are only 15 minutes away from the park (https://www.prairieduchien.org/).

Mid-May is the peak of bird migration for many of our colorful bird species that winter in the southern USA, and Central and South America; these birds are enroute to their breeding grounds in northern Wisconsin and Canada. Mid-May is also peak blooming time for spring wildflowers (spring ephemerals) that carpet the woodlands before the trees leaf out.  Wyalusing State Park, near Prairie du Chien, WI, is one of the state’s premier locations to witness the spring bird migration and wildflowers in May. The park also has a rich cultural history, the site of numerous Native American burial mounds, and the park overlooks the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers, a key location in our state’s early European history.
