We are living in grim and fearful times. And yet, we still have to figure out how not to succumb to despair and feelings of helplessness. Far from simply being “luxuries” that make us feel good, humor and creativity are absolutely essential to people’s ability to survive, thrive, and create a better world.
Deborah Buffton is a long-time friend of the fellowship and a retired history professor. Her personal and professional interests have related to how war affects society and the work of peace. Currently she is writing a chapter on international peace movements since World War I for a book on the history of internationalism.
