Tip #15: If you are a homeowner, consider investing in solar and/or a heat pump.

Each of these options currently has significant tax breaks associated with it.  With solar, you can significantly decrease your carbon footprint while reducing your electric bill big time.  You can expect to recoup the cost of your system through electric bill savings long before your system’s life is over.

With a heat pump, while you will be using more electricity, you decrease your carbon footprint by using a lot less gas or oil for heating.  Plus, the dollars you save by using less gas will more than offset the additional electricity that you use.
