The “Doctrine of Discovery” was a late medieval religious justification for the dispossession of indigenous peoples in the Americas. Far from being a thing of the past, the Doctrine of Discovery continues to shape the relations between indigenous peoples and the descendants of European settlers. What can we as a justice-seeking faith community do to repair the damage done by this legacy?
