Barriers to voting get stronger every year; they help those in power maintain their power and privilege. We can fight back.
Our congregation is the host site and implementer of a UU the Vote effort called the “Eligible Voter Education Project (EVEP)”, a La Crosse Community Foundation-funded project.
EVEP volunteers will be knocking doors and making phonecalls ahead of the three upcoming election dates. Paid staff will be attending meetings, and posting vital information on the web. We will aim to get every possible eligible La Crosse County voter the information she or he needs to get registered, and to cast ballots on April 5, August 9, and November 8.
Step One is to educate ourselves. Peter Nelson, voter education specialist and strategist from the League of Women Voters, will be in our sanctuary to do Saturday March 19, 10-11 AM.
If you attend this session, you can sign up for the first shifts of door-to-door or telephone canvassing ahead of the April 5 election.
Please RSVP to Heather McCracken (admin@uulacrosse.org) by Monday March 14, and indicate whether you will attend in-person, or via Zoom. In-person attendance requires being fully vaccinated and wearing a mask while inside the building.
