Religious Language: Troublesome Terms and Meaningful Metaphors
Many Unitarian Universalists have difficulty with traditional religious language. Basic theological categories and words like “God,” “prayer,” “sin,” “worship,” and “blessing” can trigger negative emotional reactions or simple confusion, interfering with the kind of clear and compassionate communication that needs to take place if spirituality (there’s another tricky term!) is to flourish in community. In this safe and supportive space, we’ll explore the diverse vocabulary used by Unitarian Universalists to describe their spiritual values. If there’s a particular term you’d like to discuss, you can e-mail it ahead of time to minister@uulacrosse.org, or just show up for the conversation!
We’ll be meeting on Monday, December 19th at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room.
